Dental Implants
In today’s world of modern dentistry, dental implants are a new option to replace missing teeth. Now a tooth can be replaced without modifying healthy teeth to fit a partial denture or a dental bridge. Even denture wearers can increase the stability of their dentures with an implant rather than relying on ineffective adhesives. Maintaining our philosophy that the right dental treatment helps you to live well, we are happy to provide the opportunity to replace missing teeth in the most effective way.
Dental implant treatment with your Living Wellness dentist addresses one of the most important areas of the missing tooth, the root. When a tooth is lost, the root also disappears. Before tooth loss, we may pay little mind to the value of healthy roots. In their absence, however, people soon discover that the roots of teeth do more than tether natural tooth structure to the jawbone.
The roots are responsible for providing stabilization to natural teeth. These vital structures are equally beneficial to the bone tissue in the jaw. After the loss of a tooth and its root, underlying bone structure gradually wears away due to the absence of stimulation, which typically travels through the tooth and its root. The effect of bone breakdown is especially noticeable in people who have lost all of their teeth and replaced them with conventional dentures.
Dental implant treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation and evaluation. Our staff at Living Wellness Dental believe in the intelligence of the consumer and are committed to empowering each client with information and context. During your consultation, your dentist will make sure that you understand the advantages and disadvantages of dental implant treatment, so that you can make the best choice for your situation.
Implants are small cylinders intended to take the place of the natural tooth root. The most common material used to fabricate the implant post is titanium, a material that has been shown to be suitable for most people. The body tends to readily accept titanium through a process called osseointegration, where the client’s bone structure accepts and assimilates the implants. The placement of dental implants is carefully planned based on the desired outcome. Implants may be used to replace a single tooth, topped with a custom dental crown. Implants may also be used in conjunction with a full denture appliance for the replacement of all teeth on the upper and lower arches. Another material for implants is Zirconia. This is considered a ceramic implant. Often these implants are labeled as a “metal-free” alternative. This is partially true. Zirconia comes from the family of Zirconium, which is a metal. Zirconium goes through an oxidation process to create zirconia. After the transformation, zirconia no longer behaves like metal, it instead is more comparable to ceramic material. Zirconia implant posts are considered to be ceramic non-metal. These implants are a great alternative to titanium. Zirconia implants are stable, tooth coloured, and long-term solutions to replace missing teeth. These are particularly suitable to replace front teeth or to avoid metal devices.
Compared to treatment with a dental bridge or denture appliance, restoration with dental implants does take more time to complete. The majority of time associated with dental implant treatment is linked to the healing phase, during which healthy bone tissue fuses to implant posts for a permanent, stable foundation on which to affix crowns or dentures.
Living Wellness Dental employs the platelet-rich fibrin technique, which is a proven method of catalyzing the restoration of soft tissue and bone regrowth. Utilizing this process assists our clients in achieving bone health to support your dental implant.
