In many dental offices, the fabrication and placement of a traditional dental crown, or “cap,” can take several visits and a week or two of time. At Living Wellness Dental in Calgary, patients can have their restorations done in just one visit. This is achieved with the CEREC technology available in their practice.
CEREC, stands for CEramic REConstruction. Developed in 1980, this method is becoming much more mainstream as a way to repair the smile quickly and easily right in the dental office. The CEREC method utilizes today’s CAD/CAM technology to create a digital impression of the prepared tooth and using it to mill a dental crown out of a ceramic block in approximately 15 minutes. CEREC can be used for a variety of restorations such as dental bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers.
What makes CEREC technology great is that it eliminates the need to send impressions off to a ceramist who could be hundreds of miles away. It also reduces the risk of problems and having to send restorations back because they were not made to the appropriate specifications. Our dentists, Dr. DeSanti and James Redd, have complete control over color, size, and shape of the new restorations to ensure they blend in seamlessly with the smile.
Restorations made with CEREC technology are just as strong and beautiful as those fabricated by a dental ceramist. By eliminating the dental lab, it reduces the time needed to complete treatment. It keeps patients from needing to schedule several visits with their dental team and instead, they can have their treatments done immediately while they’re already at the dental office.
